Mel Titus has had her hand in clay or mud since a little girl doing slip cast pottery with her mother in the 60’s. She apprenticed at Hand work Shop aka Visual Arts center in the early 1970’s. and then went to study ceramics at VCU til 1976.

After a hiatus from clay,Mel started working as a studio assistant at Freimarck Pottery for John Freimarck from 1982-84.

Then came marriage, children, baking desserts and working part-time at Randolph- Macon College in Ashland till 2011. Starting the Fall of 2011, she became a studio assistant at CamdenClay Works for Dave Camden.

The joy with clay was re ignited  to the point that she decided at the ripe age of 60 to pursue a career as a ceramics artist on her own in the Fall of 2013. Presently,  is the artist and owner of Mel’s Pottery studio in Ashland, Va.
